When Prisma charges a paid plan, how to cancel it, and how to cap usage charges Location: Console > More > Billing and cancellation This page covers when Prisma charges a workspace on a paid plan, how to cancel the plan, how to cap usage charges with a spending limit, and what happens when a payment fails. ## When you're charged [#when-youre-charged] A paid plan has two parts: a plan fee and usage charges. Prisma charges the plan fee in advance, at the start of each billing period, and charges usage after the period ends, for what you used in it. So one invoice usually holds the plan fee for the coming period and the usage from the period that just ended. Each billing period lasts one month and renews on the same day every month, at 00:00 UTC. To see that day for your workspace, open **Workspace Settings** > **Billing** and look at the **Subscription** card, which shows when the current billing period renews. **View Invoices** on the same page opens your invoice list, and each invoice shows the period it covers. Each workspace has its own plan and its own bill. To find which workspace is on a paid plan, switch to each one with the workspace switcher at the top left of the Console, and check the plan name on the **Subscription** card at **Workspace Settings** > **Billing**. ## Cancel a paid plan [#cancel-a-paid-plan] Cancelling moves the workspace to the Free plan at the end of the current billing period. Open the workspace that's on the paid plan, then: 1. Go to **Workspace Settings** > **Billing**. 2. Click **Manage subscription**. 3. Choose the **Free** plan, then click **Schedule cancellation**. The Console confirms with "Subscription cancellation scheduled. Your current plan stays active until the end of the current billing period." The cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and cancelling does not end that period early. Until then, the paid plan stays active with its features and included usage, and the **Subscription** card shows the date it ends. Usage from the last period is billed after the plan ends, on a final invoice. This is why a charge can arrive after you cancel. If you change your mind before the period ends, go to **Workspace Settings** > **Billing** and click **Continue subscription** to undo the cancellation. ## Workspaces billed through Vercel [#workspaces-billed-through-vercel] Vercel bills workspaces created through the Vercel Marketplace. Their charges appear on your Vercel invoice, and the invoices listed in the Console show a zero balance for these workspaces. To change or cancel the plan, go to Vercel: in your Vercel dashboard, open **Integrations**, click **Manage** on the Prisma integration, open **Settings**, and click **Change Plan**. See [Billing and pricing](https://www.prisma.io/docs/guides/postgres/vercel#billing-and-pricing) in the Vercel guide and [How do I upgrade my plan if I am using Prisma Postgres via Vercel?](https://www.prisma.io/docs/postgres/faq#how-do-i-upgrade-my-plan-if-i-am-using-prisma-postgres-via-vercel) in the FAQ. ## Cap usage charges with a spending limit [#cap-usage-charges-with-a-spending-limit] A spending limit is an optional cap on usage charges. It is available on paid plans, including Vercel Marketplace workspaces. To set one, open **Workspace Settings** > **Billing** and find the **Spending Limit** card. Enter the amount in dollars, click **Set Limit**, and type the workspace name in the dialog to confirm. The Console confirms with "Your spending limit has been set and is now being enforced." To remove the limit, click **Clear Limit** in the same card and confirm the same way. The limit covers usage charges only, so the plan fee does not count toward it. To see the usage charges built up so far this period, open **Workspace Settings** > **Usage** and look at the **Current invoice** card. When usage reaches 75% of the limit, every member of the workspace gets an email with the subject "Action Required: Update Limits Now to Maintain Uninterrupted Service". At 100%, Prisma blocks further usage: queries to the workspace's databases stop, and the Console shows "Usage blocked: your workspace has reached its spending limit." at the top of the workspace. To restore service, raise or remove the limit. A new limit higher than this period's usage charges so far, shown on the **Current invoice** card, restores queries straight away. If the new limit isn't higher, the workspace is blocked again within minutes. A spending limit stops further usage. It does not reduce charges you have already incurred, and it doesn't delete any data. ## If a payment fails [#if-a-payment-fails] When a payment fails, a banner at the top of the Console says "Your last invoice was not paid. Pay your outstanding balance to avoid this Workspace being blocked." Click **Pay your outstanding balance** to open the unpaid invoice and pay it. To update your card first, go to **Workspace Settings** > **Billing** and click **Manage payment methods**. For a workspace billed through Vercel, the banner link reads **Resolve billing in Vercel** and opens your Vercel dashboard instead. If the invoice stays unpaid, the workspace is blocked 15 days after the failed payment, and the banner changes to "Your Workspace is blocked due to an unpaid invoice." While it's blocked, queries to the workspace's databases stop, but no data is deleted. Paying the invoice lifts the block. While the workspace is blocked, you can't change its plan or delete it. ## Next steps [#next-steps] * To delete your account, first cancel the paid plan on any workspace where you are the only member (see [Cancel a paid plan](#cancel-a-paid-plan)) and wait for the cancellation to take effect at the end of the billing period. Then see [Delete your account](https://www.prisma.io/docs/console/more/support#deleting-your-pdp-account). * For help with a charge, see [Support](https://www.prisma.io/docs/console/more/support). ## Related pages - [`Feature Maturity`](https://www.prisma.io/docs/console/more/feature-maturity): Understand Early Access, Preview, and Public Beta feature stages in the Console - [`Members and deletion`](https://www.prisma.io/docs/console/more/workspaces): Invite and remove workspace members, hand a workspace to someone else, and delete databases, projects, and workspaces - [`Support`](https://www.prisma.io/docs/console/more/support): Find the right support for any Console question
